How much is composite bonding in the UK? Most published prices fall between roughly £100 and £400 per tooth. Bupa Dental Care quotes £130 to £370 per tooth, and consumer guides give similar ranges. Small edge repairs sit at the lower end, full-face bonding at the upper end. Cosmetic bonding is private, so a set of six to ten teeth usually costs well over £1,000.
These figures help you sense-check a quote, but they are not a quote. This guide breaks down the price by type of bonding and number of teeth, and adds what people often forget: the cost of keeping bonding looking good over five to ten years. For how composite work is done, see our page on composite veneers and bonding.
If you are comparing with treatment abroad, our separate article on composite bonding in Turkey vs veneers covers that question. Here the focus is on UK prices, with a short comparison at the end.
Is composite bonding available on the NHS?
Not when the aim is cosmetic. Age UK's factsheet on NHS and private dental care explains that the NHS does not provide treatment for purely cosmetic reasons, giving veneers and tooth whitening as examples. Bonding to change the shape or colour of healthy teeth falls into the same private category.
The line can be blurred, because the same resin material is used for white fillings. The NHS charges page says white fillings are available on the NHS when clinically necessary, under Band 2, which currently costs £76.60 in England. Repairing a broken front tooth may therefore be NHS treatment, while reshaping several healthy teeth for appearance is private.
How much is composite bonding per tooth?
Private fees are set by each practice, and Age UK notes that there are no official guidelines for the cost of private treatment. The table brings together the published figures we could verify. Only Bupa's range is a price list from a dental provider; the other two are consumer guides that do not fully explain how they collected their prices.
| Source | Price per tooth | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Bupa Dental Care | £130 to £370 | Cost confirmed after clinical assessment |
| Dentaly (updated 2026) | £90 to £200 on average, up to £400 | Ranges differ within the same article |
| Dentists Closeby (2026) | £200 to £400 for standard bonding | Most patients said to pay around £300 to £350 |
The overlap is reassuring: a quote between about £130 and £400 per tooth is within the published range. Anything far outside it deserves a closer look at what is, or is not, included.

Edge bonding vs full-face bonding: why the price differs
"Composite bonding" covers several different jobs, and the amount of material and chair time varies a lot between them.
| Type of bonding | What it involves | Published UK range per tooth (Dentists Closeby) |
|---|---|---|
| Edge bonding | Rebuilding chipped, worn or uneven biting edges | £100 to £200 |
| Standard bonding | Reshaping part of the tooth, closing small gaps | £200 to £400 |
| Full-face bonding (composite veneer) | Covering the whole visible front surface | £300 to £500 |
Edge bonding is quicker because only a small area is built up. Full-face bonding, often called a composite veneer, takes longer, needs careful layering of shades and is more demanding to finish and polish. Our introduction to what composite bonding is explains the technique.
How much is composite bonding UK for a full set?
A "full set" usually means the six upper front teeth that show when you smile, or eight to ten teeth for a wider smile. Dentists Closeby publishes these ranges:
| Number of teeth | Published UK range |
|---|---|
| 6 upper teeth | £1,200 to £2,700 |
| 8 to 10 teeth | £1,600 to £4,500 |
The same guide notes that some dentists reduce the per-tooth price when several teeth are done in one session. Before agreeing, check whether the price includes the consultation, a trial smile (mock-up), any whitening beforehand and the follow-up appointment. Whitening matters because composite does not lighten with bleaching, so the shade is usually chosen after whitening is finished.

What affects the price of composite bonding?
- Coverage per tooth. Edges cost less than full-face bonding.
- Number of teeth. More teeth mean a higher total but sometimes a lower price per tooth.
- Skill and time. Natural-looking bonding relies on the dentist's hand skills, as the material is shaped directly in the mouth.
- Preparation. Fillings, gum treatment or whitening needed first add to the total.
- The practice. Each practice sets its own fees, so prices vary between towns and individual dentists.
- Aftercare terms. Some practices include a review and polish; others charge for every visit.
Ask for an itemised written estimate, as Age UK recommends for any private treatment, including what complications or repairs would cost.
What should a composite bonding quote include?
A clear quote makes it easier to compare practices and avoids surprises at the end. Before you agree to treatment, check that the written estimate states:
- which teeth will be bonded, and whether each is edge or full-face bonding;
- any treatment needed first, such as fillings, gum care or whitening;
- whether a trial smile or mock-up is included;
- how many appointments are planned, including a review after a week or two;
- what polishing, adjustments and repairs cost after the treatment;
- what happens if a bond chips or comes away in the first months.
If a quote gives only a total, ask for a breakdown per tooth. A written plan also gives you something concrete to show another dentist for a second opinion.
What does composite bonding cost over 5 to 10 years?
The upfront fee is only part of the cost. Composite is softer than porcelain and is shaped by hand, so it needs ongoing care to stay smooth and stain-free.
- Hygiene and polishing. Bupa advises brushing well and seeing the hygienist regularly to keep bonding clean and unstained. Polishing fees vary; ask whether they are included.
- Repairs. Bupa notes that bonding can be repaired if it is damaged or broken. Dentists Closeby lists repairs at £50 to £150.
- Replacement. Dentaly states that bonding lasts on average five to ten years before it needs replacing, although the same page gives a longer upper estimate elsewhere.
In practice, this means that over ten years you should budget for regular hygiene visits, probably some repairs and quite possibly one full renewal. For six teeth, a renewal would cost roughly the same again as the initial treatment. Habits such as nail biting, chewing pens or grinding your teeth shorten the life of the bonding. Our article on how long composite bonding lasts explains the factors in more detail.

Is composite bonding cheaper than veneers in the long run?
Bonding costs less per tooth than porcelain veneers at the outset and usually needs little or no tooth reduction. Porcelain veneers cost more at the start but are generally more stain-resistant. If you are weighing the two, compare the total over ten years rather than the first bill, and compare the effect on your natural teeth. We set out UK veneer prices in our guide to veneers cost in the UK.
| Composite bonding | Porcelain veneers | |
|---|---|---|
| Published UK price per tooth | about £90 to £500 depending on type | about £450 to £1,500 (Dentaly, Dentists Closeby) |
| Tooth reduction | Little or none in most cases | Usually a small amount of enamel removed |
| Made | Directly in the mouth, often in one visit | In a dental laboratory, over several visits |
| Repairs | Chips can usually be repaired in the chair | A chipped veneer may need replacing |
| Upkeep | Regular polishing; more prone to staining | Less staining; still needs good hygiene |
Neither option is right for everyone. Bonding suits small changes and people who want to keep their natural teeth largely untouched, while porcelain may suit larger changes in shape or colour. A dentist should examine your teeth and bite before recommending either.
How does UK composite bonding compare with Turkey?
Our Turkey price is a fixed starting point; the final price is set out in your written treatment plan after an assessment.
| UK per tooth (published ranges) | Doctor Turka, Istanbul | |
|---|---|---|
| Composite bonding or composite veneer | about £90 to £500 depending on type | from €130 per tooth |
Remember that bonding needs ongoing maintenance, which will usually be done by a dentist near your home. Factor in travel and time off as well. Our current starting prices are listed on the dental costs in Turkey page.
