Root Canal in Turkey: what you need to know
Inside every tooth is the pulp — nerves and blood vessels running through narrow canals in the root. Deep decay, a crack or repeated dental work can inflame or infect the pulp, causing throbbing pain, sensitivity to heat or a swelling.
In a root canal treatment the inflamed tissue is removed, the canals are cleaned, shaped and disinfected, and then sealed. Modern rotary instruments and digital X-rays make the procedure more precise and comfortable than its reputation suggests — for most people it feels similar to having a large filling.
A root-treated tooth becomes more brittle over time, so a crown is usually recommended afterwards, especially on back teeth.

Is a root canal painful?
The treatment itself is done under local anaesthesia and usually feels like a longer filling. It relieves the pain caused by the inflamed nerve. Mild tenderness for a few days afterwards is normal.
Is extraction and an implant a better option?
Keeping a natural tooth is usually preferable when it can be predictably restored. If a tooth has a poor prognosis, your dentist will explain honestly whether an implant is the better long-term choice.
How many visits does a root canal need?
Often one or two; infected or re-treated teeth may need a medication between visits.
Can a failed root canal be re-treated?
