Single implant in Turkey: what you need to know
When a single tooth is lost — through decay, a fracture or an old root canal that failed — the gap is more than a cosmetic issue. Neighbouring teeth can tilt into the space, the opposing tooth can over-erupt and the bone underneath slowly shrinks.
A single implant stops that chain reaction. The titanium post replaces the root; a zirconia or porcelain crown replaces the visible part of the tooth. Because the implant stands on its own, the healthy teeth on either side do not need to be ground down, as they would for a traditional bridge.
Types of Single implant
Which option suits you is decided together with your dentist — based on your examination, not a catalogue.
Delayed implant
Placed after the extraction site has healed (about 2–3 months). The most predictable option when infection was present.
Immediate implant
Placed on the day of extraction when bone and gum are healthy — saves one healing phase.
Implant with bone graft
A small graft rebuilds missing bone at the same appointment or beforehand.

Benefits of Single implant
Neighbours stay healthy
No need to grind down the adjacent teeth as with a bridge.
Looks like your own tooth
The crown is colour-matched and shaped to blend into your smile.
Easy to clean
Brush and floss it like a natural tooth — no threaders needed.
Stops the gap from spreading
Prevents neighbouring teeth from tilting into the space.
Good to know: limits & risks
- Two trips are needed in most cases.
- In the front area, the final aesthetics depend on gum and bone volume — sometimes soft-tissue grafting is advised.
- Not suitable while an active infection is present; this is treated first.
- Very narrow gaps may be better served by a small bridge or bonded restoration.

Single implant procedure step by step
Before you travel, you know what happens on which day.
- 01
Scan and planning
A CBCT scan confirms bone height and width. The implant position is planned digitally.
- 02
Placing the implant
A short procedure of around 30–60 minutes under local anaesthesia. A healing cap or temporary tooth is placed.
- 03
Healing at home
Over roughly 3–6 months the implant fuses with the bone. You live, eat and work normally.
- 04
Your final crown
On your second visit an abutment and a custom crown are fitted, checked for bite and colour and permanently fixed.
Single implant: recovery & aftercare
- Day 1
Cold compress, soft food, no rinsing for the first hours.
- Week 1
Gentle cleaning around the healing cap; stitches (if any) dissolve or are removed.
- Months 1–4
Integration phase. Chew on the other side where possible.
- After the crown
Normal eating; annual check-ups including the implant.
Implant or bridge?
A three-unit bridge is quicker, but it requires grinding down two healthy teeth and does nothing to stop bone loss under the gap. An implant takes longer, but it protects the neighbouring teeth and the bone. In our guide Dental implants vs bridges we compare both options in detail.
Which crown goes on top?
At the back of the mouth, where chewing forces are highest, a monolithic zirconia crown is usually recommended. In the visible front area a layered zirconia or E.max crown gives more natural translucency. Your dentist will advise you based on your bite and your smile line.
Front tooth or back tooth — does it matter?
Yes. At the front, the implant must be placed with millimetre precision so that the gum line looks natural next to the neighbouring teeth, and a temporary tooth is always provided. At the back, strength matters more than translucency, so a monolithic zirconia crown is usually preferred.
How long does the procedure take?
The implant placement itself usually takes 30–60 minutes. Most patients are surprised how quick it is. Including the consultation, scan and follow-up, you should plan about 4–6 days for the first trip and 4–5 days for the crown.
What a single implant consists of
A single-tooth restoration has three parts. The implant is the titanium screw in the bone. The abutment connects the implant to the crown and emerges through the gum. The crown is the visible tooth. Titanium or zirconia abutments are chosen depending on the position: in the front, a zirconia abutment avoids any grey shimmer through thin gum.
Timeline example: missing lower molar
| When | What happens |
|---|---|
| Day 1 | Consultation, CBCT scan, final plan |
| Day 2 | Implant placement (about 45 minutes) |
| Day 4 | Check-up, stitches removed or checked, flight home |
| Months 3–4 | Healing at home, normal life |
| Second trip, days 1–5 | Scan, abutment, crown try-in and fitting |
Signs you should replace a missing tooth soon
- The teeth next to the gap have started to tilt or you notice new food traps.
- The opposing tooth looks longer than its neighbours.
- You chew only on one side.
- The gum in the gap looks thinner or lower than before.
The longer a gap stays open, the more bone is lost — and the more likely a graft becomes.

Will I have a gap while the implant heals?
Not in the visible area. For front teeth a temporary tooth is provided so that you can smile, speak and work normally during the healing period.
Can the implant be placed immediately after an extraction?
Sometimes. If the bone and gum are in good condition, an immediate implant can be placed on the day of the extraction. The CBCT scan shows whether this is safe in your case.
Can my dentist at home look after the implant?
Yes. You receive an implant passport with the manufacturer, type and size of your implant, so any dentist can perform check-ups and obtain compatible parts if needed.
Is a single implant better than a bridge?
For healthy neighbouring teeth, usually yes — the implant spares them and preserves bone. If the neighbours already need crowns, a bridge can be a sensible alternative.
Can I have the crown made in my home country?
It is possible, but we recommend completing both stages with the same team so that responsibility and guarantee stay in one place.
Titanium or zirconia implant?
Titanium implants have the longest track record and are the standard choice. Ceramic (zirconia) implants are an option for patients who want a metal-free solution; your dentist will explain whether they suit your case.
How soon can I work after placement?
Most people return to office work the next day. Avoid heavy physical exercise for a few days.
