Travelling abroad for dental treatment can save a considerable amount of money — but only if it is planned well. This guide walks you through each step so that nothing important is left to chance.

Step 1: Get a written plan before you book anything

A reputable clinic will not quote a price without seeing your teeth. Send clear photos of your smile (front, sides, upper and lower teeth) and, if you have one, a recent panoramic X-ray. You should receive:

A proposed treatment plan, tooth by tooth
The materials and implant brands to be used
An itemised quote and what is included in the package
The number of days and trips required

Step 2: Check who will treat you

Ask for the names of the dentists who will carry out your treatment and look them up. You should know who is responsible for your care — not only the name of a brand.

Step 3: Time your trip

Veneers, crowns, bridges: usually one trip of 5–7 days; smile makeovers 7–10 days.
Implants: two trips — about 4–7 days for placement and another 5–7 days roughly three to six months later.
Whitening: a single day, easily added to another trip.

Book flexible flights if you can, and avoid important events or long-haul travel in the first days after surgery.

Step 4: Prepare for the trip

A list of your medications and any medical conditions
Previous X-rays and dental records
Comfortable clothes, a soft-food plan for surgical treatments

Step 5: In Istanbul

Your first appointment includes an examination and usually a 3D scan. The plan is then confirmed. If the scan reveals something unexpected, a good clinic explains the options and waits for your consent before changing anything. Between appointments you will have time to rest — or to enjoy the city.

Step 6: Before you fly home

Make sure you leave with:

Your treatment documents and X-rays
An implant passport (for implants), listing brands and sizes
Written aftercare instructions and your guarantee terms
A direct contact for questions after you get home

Step 7: Aftercare at home

Tell your local dentist about your treatment and keep your regular check-ups. Most questions can be answered remotely with a photo; your coordinator stays your contact.
